Staying Fit At The Beach

Make sure you pack your runners – there’s plenty of ways to join in the fitness fun and staying fit during your seaside stay in Kiama. Here are our top picks.

Mother Nature provides us with four beautiful saltwater rock pools on the edge of the ocean for staying fit at the beach. Whether you’re one to brave the morning laps or prefer a relaxing afternoon dip to unwind, the regularly-maintained tidal pools await your dive into the big blue. There’s the Continental Pool (also known as the Olympic Pool) at the north end of Black Beach Reserve, the Blowhole Point Rock Pool on the north side of Blowhole Point, Ourie Pool at Werri Beach, and Boat Harbour Pool at the headland north of Gerringong’s Boat Harbour.

Explore more

It will hardly feel like exercise when you’re tapping the track of our wondrous walkways. You could easily spend a full day exploring the coastline, or opt for a quick session weaving through headlands and hills before heading out to explore more of our abundant region. Start off with a gentle hour on the Kiama Coast Walk making your way from the Kiama Blowhole to the Little Blowhole. You’ll be treated to views of the remarkable ocean spouts from a viewing platform. Others to add to your walking wish list are Cathedral Rocks to Bombo Beach, Bombo Headland to Kiama Blowhole, and the Sand Track Walk (south) through the ancient and untouched forest at Seven Mile Beach National Park.

Group gains

No need to go it alone – you can get social on your stroll by joining in with the Kiama Walking Group during your stay. There’s more than 40 local members who meet up at Black Beach for 45-60 minute medium-strength walks each week. For more info, contact the organiser John on 02 4232 2438 or head here for the group’s online listing.

Inner strength

There’s plenty of choice for those who prefer to work up a sweat indoors. Head to the Leisure Centre and work out in the gym, pool or group fitness classes, sign up for a session any hour of the day at One Fitness 24/7 or drop into Curves for a ladies-only option.

Flow down

Unroll your mat and connect with both yourself and the passionate local yoga community. Choose between indoor and outdoor classes, with locations including Black Beach and North Kendalls Beach if the weather plays along. We’ve also got our eye on their upcoming Flow, Juice and Intention mini retreat on February 16. The day includes a cleansing elixir, yoga classes and intention setting.
