Valentine Day In Kiama

Valentine’s Day in Kiama might only be a one-day affair, but we’ve got the love bug all month long in Kiama. With quieter beaches, balmy evenings and cheaper rates, February is the ideal time to set your lover swooning. Here’s what’s on.

Class act

Follow the kids’ lead and get back to class. Kiama Art Workshops offers budding or advanced creatives the chance to spread their artistic wings. Sign up for Colour Theory with Jodi Stewart and be guided through techniques to increase your confidence in happy hues. You’ll walk away from the one-day class ready to create wonderful works of art in any medium including watercolour, acrylic and oils. It’s on Feb 23.

Catch Cupid

Strip down to your undies for a good cause this Valentine’s Day weekend. Cupid’s Undie Run kicks off at Kiama Surf Life Saving Club on Feb 17, with the 1.5km run in bedroom bests raising money for the Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia. Dress up or down – throw on a t-shirt, tutu and fairy wings, a superhero costume or anything that makes you comfortable while standing out. The event kicks off at 10am and the fun run, hop, skip, jump or walk starts at 11.30am. Register online at cupidsundierun.com.au

Simple pleasures

With the Kiama Coast Walk, our brilliant blowholes and an abundance of unforgettable picnic locations, you’ll be spoilt for choice month-long with cuddleworthy natural settings. Often all you need for a romantic night in is the two of you and the backdrop of Mother Nature. Relax on your deck – or in your deck chairs – and take in the sights of our spectacular surroundings. Hint: pick up a bottle of local wine from Manning Street Cellars and pre-order some take away so you don’t have to lift a finger.

On song

Share a love of music with your love? Don’t miss celebrated international pianist Penelope Thwaites. She’ll take to the stage at the Gerringong Town Hall on Feb 17, giving a fascinating insight into the lives and work of Bach, Beethoven, Grainger, Chopin and more as she performs their music. Tickets are $25 at the door, and include afternoon tea.

In flow

Our beaches and waterways are our biggest drawcard, and they’re bound to be a lot less busy this month. Take a surf lesson together at Surf Beach or explore the reefs with a deep sea fishing trip with Kiama Charter Service. The estuary of the Minnamurra River is ideal for kayaking. Canoe and Kayak Adventures offer guided kayak journeys along the banks of the river, exploring the sand spit and mangroves along the way.
